ouch.....

Breaking Even sounds like a very painful thing to experience that will induce feelings of sadness.
When in actual fact it's the opposite - It's more of a simple joy.

Personally it's that moment where I can stop thinking about finances and bills, and focus more on the highlights that money can't buy. The comradeship of performers, giving an audience a good time, or making it through a set without tripping up embarrassingly.

Let's face it, we're not in it for the money. We're never going to be able to afford quality hookers and booze with the profits of the show. But it's good to know that I no longer have to convince Aaron to sell a kidney. Thats' one to do list item that has solved itself nicely.

Swabbing the deck and Battoning the hatches

So our show opens in a weeks time....seven more sleeps.

It's a strange point to be at - a lot of the hard work has already gone into our show. All the publicity and organising, people co-ordination, prep of routines and practising. But all of this has been separate little parcels.

Now it's all starting to come together - in a blizzard of last minute fury.
We'll have a couple of run throughs, a pile of last minute invites to hand out, nervous checking of ticket sales and a pack in. Then suddenly - wham! It'll be our big moment o opening night.

It's good just to take this moment, to enjoy the journey, before we dive into the week ahead - see how far we've come, and realise it's now all about the finishing touches.

Our snazzy poster

You may see our shiny and exciting poster up in cafes and noticeboards around Wellington.

A big love heart to Ralph for this amazing concept - he usually only design band posters, so we are very lucky to have him work with us. Check out more of his designs at www.ralphillustration.co.uk.

And to be honest - what nautical show isn't complete without an homage to Roy Schneider?

An informative review of a boat I was on - by Jared

I went on the Spirit of New Zealand today. My mate, second mate to be precise, gave me some insight into the wonderful nautical world. Firstly he told me as Second Mate he can legally pronounce people dead which I thought was pretty cool. I obviously spent the rest of the tour a legit zombie.

I asked him about the humor on the seven seas his favorite is when they have team building exercises and some wise guy says "come on guys we are all in the same boat" is his favorite bit. I wasn't sure if he was being sarcastic or not but I think the miming suicide attempts made it pretty clear.

They also only have one movie on the boat. Incidentally he knows Pirates of the Caribbean 2 off by heart.

I wasn't sure if my nose was playing tricks on me but the boys bunk room smelled a bit like fish but when a kid asked if they could go fishing during the trip he informed the kid they had no gear for fishing. Perhaps it's a secret crew activity the kids aren't supposed to know about?

I heard a rumor there was a swimming pool on board and I was surprised to find there were in fact four. One at the front one at the back and one on each side. We couldn't go swimming though I didn't see them either so I suppose they are under maintenance.

As we left the boat nearing the end of our trip my mate was swamped by women young and old all wanting to hear about life on the sea and where they could join. I was surprised to find he didn't flaunt his rank like I would have done in the same situation but I suppose when you drive a boat with a turbo the size of a small car you don't need to over overcompensate.

I left forgetting to get the wizard to cast me back to my former self which is perhaps unfortunate because I would have liked to held onto my life a little longer then I did but you know what Clive Owen says in Croupier, the movie I bought from a video store for $5 when I was hungover one day which incidentally doesn't have anything at all to do with boats or the sea, "Hold on tightly, let go lightly."

pre-sales

Presales go live to priviledged Ticektek customers tomorrow. That means we're less than seven weeks out from the festival.

The poster design is nearly finished and we'll be getting them printed shortly.

And we're shooting next weekend for out YouTube promo videoss.

I'm feeling pretty proud and organised at the moment - let's hope this feeling stays that way - Hilaire

We did it!

So after officially being accepted into the NZ International Comedy Festival the journey begins. I have my trusty crew by my side, the kiwi comedy stars above to guide me and uncharted territory for me to explore.

Let's get ready for an adventure!
